Why these numbers aren't apples-to-apples: the grocery prices above are for specific trimmed cuts. The farmer price is per pound of hanging weight — the animal's weight before processing turns it into wrapped cuts (typically ~60–65% of hanging weight), but that one flat rate covers a mix of steaks, roasts, and ground beef. Buying bulk usually comes out cheaper per pound once it's all said and done, but the comparison here is directional, not exact.
