This Privacy Policy explains what information We Know Meat (“we,” “us,” or “our”) collects when you visit weknowmeat.com, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. If you have questions about anything here, please contact us.

Information We Collect

Information you give us

If you subscribe to our newsletter, we collect the email address you submit, and any name you choose to provide, so that we can send you the emails you asked for. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email we send. If you write to us through our contact page or by email, we keep your message and your email address so we can reply.

Information collected automatically

Like most websites, our servers record standard log data when you visit: your IP address, browser type and version, device type, operating system, referring and exit pages, the pages you view, and the date and time of your visit. We use this to keep the site running, diagnose problems, protect against abuse, and understand how the site is used.

We and our partners also collect information through cookies and similar technologies, as described in the next two sections.

Cookies and Similar Technologies

Cookies are small text files placed on your device. We use them for three purposes:

  • Functional cookies that are necessary for the site to work — remembering your consent choices, keeping your session secure, and storing display preferences.
  • Analytics cookies that help us understand which pages are read and how people move through the site.
  • Advertising cookies set by Google and other third-party vendors to serve and measure ads, as described below.

You can manage your cookie preferences for this site at any time using the consent controls available on the site, and you can block or delete cookies through your browser settings. Blocking functional cookies may prevent parts of the site from working correctly.

Advertising

We display advertising on this site, including ads served through Google AdSense.

  • Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
  • Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.
  • Google uses the DoubleClick DART cookie to serve ads based on your visits to this site and other sites on the Internet. You may decline the use of the DART cookie by visiting the Google advertising and content network privacy policy.
  • Third-party ad servers and ad networks use technologies such as cookies, JavaScript, and web beacons in the advertisements and links that appear on this site. These are sent directly to your browser and automatically receive your IP address. They are used to measure the effectiveness of advertising campaigns and to personalize the advertising content you see.
  • We have no access to, and no control over, the cookies used by third-party advertisers. Their use of your information is governed by their own privacy policies, not this one.

How to opt out of personalized advertising

  • You may opt out of personalized advertising by Google by visiting Google Ads Settings.
  • You may opt out of personalized advertising by many third-party vendors at aboutads.info/choices or optout.networkadvertising.org.
  • If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, we and our advertising partners rely on your consent for personalized advertising and for non-essential cookies. You can give, refuse, or withdraw that consent at any time using the consent controls on this site.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the site. Google Analytics sets cookies and collects information such as the pages you visit, how long you spend on them, and the approximate location derived from your IP address. This information helps us decide what to write and what to improve. You can prevent Google Analytics from collecting your data by installing the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on. For more information on how Google handles data, see Google’s Privacy Policy and How Google uses information from sites that use its services.

Affiliate Links and Amazon Associates

Some links on this site are affiliate links. If you click one and make a purchase, we may earn a commission at no additional cost to you. Clicking an affiliate link may place a cookie on your browser so that the merchant can attribute the sale to us.

We Know Meat is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com. As an Amazon Associate, we earn from qualifying purchases.

Affiliate relationships do not influence our recommendations. See our Affiliate Disclosure for more detail.

Who We Share Information With

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only with the service providers that make this site work, and only to the extent they need it:

  • Our web host and content delivery network, which process server log data.
  • Google, for advertising and analytics, as described above.
  • Our email service provider, for sending the newsletter you subscribed to.
  • Law enforcement or other parties where we are legally required to do so, or where it is necessary to protect our rights, safety, or property.

Your Rights in the EEA, UK, and Switzerland

If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you have the following rights over your personal data:

  • Access — to request copies of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Rectification — to ask us to correct information you believe is inaccurate or incomplete.
  • Erasure — to ask us to delete your personal data, in certain circumstances.
  • Restriction of processing — to ask us to limit how we process your data, in certain circumstances.
  • Objection to processing — to object to our processing of your data, in certain circumstances.
  • Data portability — to ask us to transfer the data we hold to another organization, or to you.
  • Withdrawal of consent — where we rely on your consent, to withdraw it at any time, without affecting processing carried out before you withdrew it.

We rely on your consent for non-essential cookies, advertising, and analytics; on our legitimate interest in operating and securing the site for server log data; and on your consent and our contractual relationship with you for the newsletter. To exercise any of these rights, contact us. We will respond within one month. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.

Your California Privacy Rights

If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act, gives you the right to:

  • Know the categories and specific pieces of personal information we have collected about you, the sources, and the purposes for collecting it.
  • Request deletion of personal information we have collected about you.
  • Request correction of inaccurate personal information.
  • Opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information. The use of advertising cookies by our third-party partners may be considered “sharing” for cross-context behavioral advertising under California law. You can opt out using the consent controls on this site, or by enabling a Global Privacy Control signal in your browser, which we honor.
  • Limit the use and disclosure of sensitive personal information. We do not collect or use sensitive personal information for purposes that require this right.
  • Not be discriminated against for exercising any of these rights. We will not deny you access to the site, charge you a different price, or provide a different level of service because you exercised a privacy right.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us. We may need to verify your identity before responding, which we will do using the email address associated with your request.

Children’s Privacy

This site is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

Data Retention

We keep newsletter subscriber data until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. We keep contact messages for as long as needed to handle your enquiry and to keep a record of correspondence. Server logs are retained for a limited period for security and troubleshooting. Analytics and advertising data are retained according to Google’s own retention settings and policies.

Data Security

This site is served over HTTPS, and we take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect the information we hold. No method of transmission or storage over the Internet is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Links to Other Websites

This site links to other websites, including farm listings, retailers, and reference sources. This Privacy Policy does not apply to those sites. We encourage you to read the privacy policy of any site you visit from here.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the effective date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
